Press Release
Tucson,
AZ (March 24, 2009) There are approximately 2100 homeless children in Pima
County. With this in mind, Pima Community College Downtown Campus Upward Bound High School Students recently chose The
Giving Tree Outreach Program as their community service project. The Giving Tree has passionately served the homeless
in our community for the last 20 years.
Dr.
Lyn Olsen, Manager of the Pima CC Upward Bound Program, and Libby Wright, Director of The Giving Tree, agreed that the students
made a good choice in deciding to paint the Grace Home, one of the Giving Tree’s residential facilities for homeless
mothers and their children.
Home
Depot enthusiastically agreed to help. Other partners, Habitat for Humanity and Lang-Wyatt Construction Company, quickly
agreed to join the team.
Representatives
from these community-minded companies visited four of the homes operated by The Giving Tree, and realized the need was greater
than anyone anticipated. The Giving Tree’s facilities, which shelters a cross section of disabled adults, single
fathers, teenagers and children, all needed repairs, updates, and new appliances. After the tour was completed, the team made a commitment to restore all FOUR homes.
The remodel will help restore hope for current clients, as well
as countless future clients who seek the shelter of Giving Tree homes.
The Restoring Hope Project begins next week with larger projects and demolition.
The entire makeover is projected to be completed by April 10th and 11th.
In
order to achieve this goal in such a short time, residents of the homes need to be sheltered and 100 project volunteers need
to be fed. Donations to help cover these expenses are needed, and additional sponsors are invited to participate.
Individuals, groups, and corporations interested in helping with this project
are urged to contact:
